About Us

Sound Start Babies is committed to providing life-changing, research-validated early intervention services to infants and toddlers with hearing loss so they may develop language, speech, and communication skills commensurate with their hearing peers. We work exclusively with children under the age of 3 and serve families in all 21 counties in New Jersey through our inclusive nursery program, in-home services and teleintervention.

Founded and headquartered in Mountain Lakes, Sound Start Babies celebrates 30 years of support and impact in 2026. We served 55% more families in 2025 than the year prior and continue to address unmet needs throughout the state.

While children with typical hearing acquire communication skills incidentally through exposure, babies with hearing loss require specific amplification technology, and highly specialized, intense intervention services during the critical first three years of life. This period of time represents a nearly magical window of opportunity for babies with hearing loss, but without access to to the support necessary, irreversible delays can occur.

Our commitment is to deliver highly specialized services regardless of a family’s financial status or geographic location, ensuring equitable access to early intervention services. Approximately ⅓ of the population we serve demonstrates additional developmental and socio-economic challenges. We partner with families during a sensitive and vulnerable time to ensure they are provided with compassionate support and the knowledge, confidence, and community they need to navigate their child’s journey.
